It seems like lots of you splendid online instructors make videos on putting away high short balls . but mainly from the forehand side. Even this amazing bit of work, though backhand prep is mentioned, kind of abandons that wing partway through. Would love to see a video on this subject that focuses on putting away those short/high/crazy-making one and two-handed backhand short ball ass-whuppin'!

Are these all flat serves? I notice the pronation on the wrist sends the ball straight down the court. However, my coach teaches my not to pronate so much, which generates some speed spin.

Yeah but the key thing that wasn’t mentioned and often overlooked is his knee bend. Most of that power comes from the legs and you didn’t mention it really. Yeah the arm matters, racquet headspeed and all that but we can’t overlook the power he gets from his legs. I thought you talked about the swing too much and didn’t mention balance and legs

I have to be honest I have never seen the pros stepping like that they race to hit the ball in an open stance or if they can close stance.

Not hatin', just sayin', but the continental backhand shown with the thumb perpendicular to the racket handle was NOT THE Don Budge backhand grip, which used the opposable thumb on bevel 7 across from the forefinger knuckle on bevel 3. A complete discussion of backhand grip options ought to include this famous arm, shoulder, rotator, and footwork friendly option. Just sayin'. Also missing is the hammer grip version of the continental, with the thumb resting on top of the forefinger, with forefinger pad resting on bevel 6, with 'v' crotch on bevel 8. A kind of squeeze shot.

Keep at it guys! Thanks for the quality content! I started playing 7 months ago at the age of 28 (no prior experience). I started serving only 2 months ago and thanks to your videos my serve is 130-160 kmh! Still struggling with the rotation of the shoulder. Do you have any advice on gym exercises/ mobility exercises/ stretches that helps with range of motion, power, shoulder stability?

I started tennis in late 1970s with wooden racquet era. Grip taught was eastern grip. I think most players at that time like McEnroe, Lendl, Sampras were doing similar grip. The only exception I read about was Rod Laver with western grip at his time. Is it partly a function of advance racquet technology that made the more aggressive style possible? What was Bjorn Borg's grip, seeing that he was a top spin player?

This is a superb serve lesson. What you said about Rafter, with his combination of hips vs shoulder counter twist, and his forward toss into the court(30%) to produce such a wicked kick, I certainly did not know that. I think now that I am beginning to understand, Ben Sheldon does something similar. Not coincidentally I suppose, he seems to have the best kick serve out there right now.
